Budi Tulodo was one of Indonesia’s top show jumping riders. Then a few years ago, Budi moved to USA to expand his equestrian expertise. We caught up with Budi as he plans to visit us in the upcoming weeks.
Most memorable riding accomplishment?
My most memorable accomplishment was when I competed in my first South East Asian World Cup Qualification in Malaysia. This became most memorable because I was riding a Home Bred horse from Indonesia.
Why did you switch to becoming a farrier?
I’m still a rider nonetheless. The reason I went into Farrier School was because I felt Indonesia needs a person who can master the skill and I want to share that knowledge with others.
In your eyes, what are most farriers missing in Indonesia? Knowledge or Experience? why do think so?
In my opinion farriers in Indonesia need to upgrade their knowledge, as well as use the appropriate tools for shoeing.
How long will you be in Indonesia?
Normally I will be in Indonesia for approximately 2 weeks. During this time I will be giving clinics in several areas in and around Indonesia.
What is most important in shoeing?
The most important thing is to know the biomechanics of the hoof. Because 80% of lameness comes from shoeing, that is why the farrier is an important factor in the soundness of the horse.
Lastly, breeders should also be aware that they need a farrier to understand the hoof properly. Because it is important to keep an eye on the growth of the hoof from the beginning of the horse’s life cycle.
Budi will be giving clinics around Indonesia on the 12-23 March, 2018. For those of you interested of having the farrier masterclass, please contact us at +62817770272.
